Learn to read your own cards,
as well as how to do readings for other people!

Together, we'll discover many techniques for better understanding the Tarot, and see firsthand
how to put them into practice.

This class is open to complete beginners,
but those who have more experience with Tarot
will find plenty to discover, as well!

Some of the things we will be covering are:

- a brief bit of tarot history, including some of the differences
between  decks, and how to choose one

- methods of reading the cards intuitively,
and getting cues from the imagery

- traditional symbolic structures;
interpretation methods for numbers and suits

- the court cards as personality types,
and as characteristics of other people and ourselves

- using spreads and reversals; how the card meanings change
based on their placement, and how their meanings influence each other

- looking at the symbolism of the Major Arcana as a metaphor for the spiritual  journey, and as archetypal lessons and themes

We will explore these things though: group discussion; lecture; handouts; creative projects; doing readings in pairs, alone, and as a group; storytelling; journalling; and guided visualization.

I recommend that everyone bring: a pen and something to write in,
a mug for tea, and a Rider-Waite-Smith (or very similar) Tarot deck,
for better continuity in group activities.
If you are interested in working with another deck in this class, and are not sure if it would be appropriate, please speak with me about it beforehand. I will have examples of various decks, and one can be borrowed during the class, if needed.

Can't make it to the above workshop? No problem!
I'd love to come to your home to share some of what I know about the divinatory arts with you and your friends!

The cost is less than ten dollars a person, per hour,

and the host can take the class for FREE!

*It may be necessary to ask participants to register with payment in advance to confirm attendance. The price is for at least 4 paying participants.

DIVINATION & SYMBOLISM, SACRED DIALOGUE AND FORTUNE-TELLING:

A one-day, 6-hour workshop, (probably a Saturday or Sunday)
for $50 per person

This workshop seeks to explore symbolism and divination, through group discussion, lecture, and hands-on activities using a variety of tools and techniques!

We will begin by looking at how we can use symbolism of various types, and what purposes it serves. This includes a bit about various traditional symbolic systems, but with more emphasis on coming to understand how the meaning of a symbol can be derived, including discovering the personal significance of various symbols.

This will lead us into working with dream interpretation, omens and signs, and the ways that interpretation of symbols is used in many divinatory techniques. We will also be exploring the how and why of divination, in a variety of forms. Discover the many reasons why people do divination, and different ideas about how it works. We'll look at how certain methods of divination are more suited to different purposes, and how to choose a method for your particular needs.

We will work with divination as a means for: prediction, introspection, answering practical questions, communication with the Divine (or other being/s of your choice), conducting readings for both others and the self.

There will be a number of methods you will have an opportunity to learn about and try, including:
-Tea leaf reading
-Ceromancy (reading wax drippings)
-Pendulums
-Coin tossing, and other yes/no methods (they can be more interesting than you might think!)
-Palmistry

Please bring the following:
-a pen and something to write in
-a memory of a dream (or dreams) that you've had
-4 flat objects which can be shook and tossed (ie: buttons, coins, scrabble tiles, lima beans with something drawn on one side, or something you've made yourself- feel free to be creative!). The objects should preferably all be the same thing, and the 2 sides of each one need to be distinct from each other in some way (so you can tell if it has landed facing up or down)
-a teacup or two, if you have something suitable (if not, don't worry about it). On the inside of the cup, it should be white or light-coloured, without any patterns or designs. It should have a handle and it should be as wide and rounded as possible.

EXPLORING THE TAROT:

Available as either a condensed 5-hour x 2-day workshop (probably a Saturday or Sunday), or spread out over 4 evenings, at $100 per person.

TAROT 2:

A one-day, six-hour workshop (probably a Saturday or Sunday)
for $50 per person

This is a more advanced class, intended for people who have some experience already with the Tarot, who wish to broaden their knowledge and play with new techniques.

Participants should be already familiar with their deck, and comfortable giving readings (without needing to consult a book).

Some of the things we will be working with:

-Reading decks with unillustrated pips

-Creating your own spreads

-Differentiating meanings of similar cards

-Working with reversals and dignities

-Feeling the energy of the cards and querent

-Reading for others without knowing the question

-Broadening the vocabulary of interpretations for each card

We'll be trying a variety of exercises and activities together, designed to push us into new ways of using and interpreting the cards, and sharing our experiences with each other. This will include discussion, games, journalling, and doing readings for ourselves, in pairs, and as a group.

Participants should bring whichever Tarot deck (standard 78-card, please!) they have some experience using and are comfortable with,
as well as a pen and something to write in.

SPELLS, WITCHCRAFT,
AND FOLK MAGICK:

an introduction to the Art of Spellcraft

(a workshop for aspiring Witches, on the hows and whys of magick)

A two-day workshop, ten hours in total,  for $100 per person - There may be a small additional cost for materials, outside of the class ($5 to $10), but most will be provided

We will explore the value of Spells and Ritual as a spiritual practice, as well as the ideology behind directing our wills and creating transformation both inside and outside of ourselves.

We'll also discuss and debate the ethics of Magick; how we can make positive change, while considering the morality and repercussions of what we do, and exploring common ideas about values and ethical frameworks around spell-casting.

With hands-on, participatory excercises, we will learn about purposes and methods of purification, consecration, energy-raising, and consciousness-shifting.
We'll also learn how to discover personal symbolic correspondences and apply them to principles of sympathetic magick, in order to create our own unique spells, for a variety of purposes.

We will also discuss some of the common areas spells can be applied to, such as for prosperity, love, protection, healing, cleansing, success, etc. and how the intention can shape the form that the working will take.

This is a practical, hands-on class which will include interactive portions where we will put into practice what we have learned, by:

- Creating sigils for our intentions, using two different methods

- Candle-burning spells

- Using oils, herbs, stones, and other objects for folk magick

- Weaving and knot magick

- Making poppets or charm bags

- Practicing visualization and affirmations

- Using chanting, toning, rhythm, and movement in ritual

This workshop is open to anyone with a willingness to learn about Witchcraft and try the practices mentioned above. I approach Witchcraft practices in the context of my religion, but this course will focus on spells and ritual as a spiritual practice, and not on any particular belief system. You may be invited to use prayer or invocation in the workshop, but you won't need to do anything which contradicts your own beliefs. We will also not be doing any magick together which causes harm, like cursing/hexing, or doing spells which seek to control or influence another person. Our focus will be on ritual theory and practices for personal growth and transformation.

For the first session, you should bring:

-an open mind and willingness to share and participate,

-a pen and paper or journal to write in,

-a drum or rattle (if you have one),

-essential oil (if you have some),

-objects you wish to cleanse, consecrate, or empower (if you have any).

For the second session:

-a needle and thread

-scissors (preferably which can cut fabric)

-objects to stuff a poppet or charm bag with (herbs, stones, other small objects.. clear directions will be given in the first session)

Exploring the Tarot!

Tues. April 3rd and Wed. April 4th

from 7:00pm - 10:00pm.    $60

Learn to read Tarot for yourself and others!

This class is open to complete beginners as well as those with more experience who want to deepen their knowledge and skills.

The first evening, we'll explore intuitive methods of using the cards, including different ways of interpretting the imagery and using our intuition. We'll do some light trance-journeying, and explore how the cards interact with each other through a couple of  creative excercises. We'll also talk about strategies for reading pip cards in historical decks, which are not illustrated with scenes.

On day two, we'll look more at the traditional structures of the deck. This will include the significance of the suits and the numbers, and a detailed look at the court cards. We'll share some spreads, and talk about how to create your own. I'll also share a bit about the history of the Tarot, and factors to consider when selecting which deck to use.

The tentative location of this class is a home in Milwoods, but we may change to another venue, depending on the number of people who wish to come. You will be updated with the exact address after you register, and once the details are finalized.

Because space is very limited, I would encourage you to register as soon as possible to ensure your spot in the class. Those who have paid in advance will be given preference if the class is full.

You can use the secure Paypal link below to register for the class, or contact me privately to make other payment arrangements if you can't pay online.

Students should bring:

- a standard 78-card Tarot deck, composed of 22 Major Arcana cards, four suits with numbered cards from ace to ten, and four court cards in each suit. If you are purchasing your very first Tarot deck for this class, I'd recommend a Rider Waite. If you already have decks, feel free to bring a variety, and use what works best for you. More advanced readers may wish to try using a Marseilles, or other 'unillustrated' historical deck.

- a notebook, journal, or paper, and a pen.

- a cup for tea, if you want to drink some.

- a cushion to sit on.

Introduction to Tarot: 4 Wednesday Evenings in September

September 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th), from 6:00 - 9:00pm at Where Faeries Live: 10991 - 124th st.

The cost will be $100 total, for the 4 sessions of 2 and a half hours each.

You can register at the store anytime, and payment is accepted by cash, debit, visa, or mastercard. They are also able to take credit card purchases over the phone. They can't accept cheques, unfortunately.

The class is designed to be introductory, but there's really something to learn for everyone, so those that have some experience with the Tarot are welcomed as well as people who are completely new. There's plenty of study involved in reading cards, but I think that one learns a lot more from practical experience, and so in the class I make lots of room for a more hands-on, practical approach, as well as theory.

Some things we will be covering are:
-a brief bit of tarot history, including the differences between various decks, and how to choose one
-methods of reading the cards intuitively, and getting cues from the imagery
-traditional symbolic structures of the deck; deriving meaning from the numbers and suits, in the minor arcana
-the court cards as personality types and characteristics of other people and ourselves
-using spreads and reversals; how the card meanings change based on their placement and their meanings influence each other
-looking at the symbolism of the major arcana as a metaphor for the spiritual journey, and as archetypal lessons and themes

We will explore these things though:
-group discussion
-lecture
-handouts
-doing readings in pairs, alone, and as a group
-storytelling
-journalling
-guided visualization

I recommend that everyone bring a Rider-Waite (or very similar) Tarot deck, for better continuity in group activities. If you are interested in working with another deck in this class, and are not sure if it would be appropriate, please speak with me about it beforehand. I will bring examples of various decks, and one can be borrowed for the first class, if needed.
Please bring a journal, or something to write in, as well.

If you need any more information, feel free to contact me at tarot@consultant.com, or call (780)- 454-0187 to register.

You can also RSVP on Facebook, to show your interest, and ensure that you receive any forthcoming updates about this class!
